DIY Cut Your Own Quilling Strips

I am often asked what type of quilling paper I prefer to use. It really depends on the project. Find out why I would bother to cut my own, when I would use it, and how I store it in my latest YouTube video:  https://youtu.be/Lq_oHsARmU0 Download free PDF templates for hand cutting or  SVG files for cutting with an electric cutting machine: http://paperzen.blogspot.ca/2014/06/diy-quilling-strips-tutorial-with-free.html Binder Storage using Negative Sleeves http://paperzen.blogspot.ca/2012/05/quilling-paper-storage.html Negative Sleeves (Amazon affiliate link) http://amzn.to/2DCpexf Foam core box storage http://paperzen.blogspot.ca/2014/01/quilling-paper-storage.html Fish Tackle Box (Amazon affiliate link) http://amzn.to/2DBDZ32 Daiso is a Japanese dollor store http://www.daisoglobal.com/store/list/?c_id=C0006 Cricut Explore (Amazon affiliate link) http://amzn.to/2DyqYY9 Canson Mi-Teintes is available at Dick Blick https://www.dickblick.com/products/canson-mi-teintes-drawing-p...

Quilling Letter J with a Color Background

Ever wonder how to fill a quilled letter with color? I first did it many years ago for the Letter E , but didn't take good photos of the process because I was still trying to figure things out. Watch the video and you'll see just  how easy it is with the letter J. I also show how to make "paper pollen", giving your flowers a realistic element that will make your loved ones believe you went out and harvested pollen from real flowers. It's so fast to make these simple flowers from dollar store die punches - there's no reason to buy a card for Mother's Day or your best friend's birthday when it's so easy to make a statement like this. Watch the YouTube video here:  https://youtu.be/E7LC6sQRcyg My new PDF e-book,   Quilling Letters  is available in my Etsy shop.  Every side and curve of the 26 letters of the alphabet is pre-measured – j ust lay your strip on top of my patterns, score, snip, fold, and glue.

Quilling Letters H and I in a Comment Bubble

Why does everything look cuter when it's shrunk? I printed the letters H and I from my book at 25%, and applied them on a folded notecard, to be tucked into hubbie's lunch bag. Since the size of the overall design is smaller, I'm using 1/8" width strips this time. I'm still cutting my own strips from Canson Mi-Teintes paper. The letters are straight sided and therefore simple to accomplish. To load this latest tutorial  video with knowledge nuggets, I'm showing how I cut card stock from my template. I've got a simple method to prevent the template from shifting while cutting. Hand cutting can seem so simple, but what if it becomes skewed? I'll show you how I manage to make clean, neat cuts. Quilling Letter G - Outline and Fill with Teardrop Shapes

My nephew's name starts with the letter G, so I'm glad to have this chance to make his birthday card way ahead of time. I remember one common gripe about quilling is that there aren't many examples made for guys, so I hope this example is inspiring to you. Although I have already shown how to make shapes intersecting the letter outline in a previous YouTube video, this time I'm going to cut the letter, and not the shape, because the shapes don't lend themselves to easy cutting. I first saw these dynamic teardrop shapes in a piece by Yulia Brodskaya and just love how much movement they convey, so I'll show you how to make them in my video, Quilling Letter G . I also show how to make the doubled up loose scroll. If you like making confetti, as if they are falling from the ceiling, and it's super easy to do. After gluing the design down, I realized it didn't pop off the page as much as I thought it would, so I dabbed a bit of metallic stamp pad on the surfa...
